Republics of Russia
The twenty-one republics of Russia represent areas of the Russian republic
whose residents are historically or primarily of non-Russian ethnicity.
Each republic is named after its predominent or historic ethnic group,
and that ethnic group is known as the republic's "titular nationality".
Among other special rights given to the Russian republics is the right to establish
their own official language.
