Russian Holiday observed every year on April 12 to
commemorate the first manned orbit of the earth, achieved
on April 9, 1962 by the Soviet Union. 27 year old
Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin made one complete orbit
around the earth aboard the spacecraft Vostok I.
The orbit took one hour and forth-eight minutes.

commemorate the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet
Union in the Second World War (also known in Russia as the
