The Former Yugoslavia
The former Internet country code for the region formerly known
as the Eastern European country of Yugoslavia was YU.
The countries and regions that were included within the boundaries of the former Yugoslavia includeBosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia. The State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs and the Kingdom of Serbia formed a union on December 1, 1918 and the Kingdom of Montenegro was annexed into that union on November 13, 1918. The new union was called the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

The last country using the name "Yugoslavia" was the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which included Serbia, portions of Montenegro, and the autonomous provinces of Vojvodina and Kosovo. On February 4, 2003 the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was renamed the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. Montenegro declared its independence on June 3, 2006 and Serbia declared its independence on June 5, 2006. Kosovo declared its independence in 2008 but its statehood was still in dispute at the time of this writing. |
