The goals of Duke’s OceanFest are to raise funds for the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation (ODKF) college scholarship and athletic grants program, and pay respect to the legacy of Duke Kahanamoku with a celebration of surfing and ocean sports.

Sports disciplines and activities competed or represented at the festival have included surfing, longboard surfing tandem surfing, swimming, paddleboard racing, stand-up paddleboarding, beach volleyball, and surf polo. The festival also includes film screenings on the beach or at the Hawaii Theater and opportunities for socializing.
