WHAT IS DUKE’S DAY: A Celebration of Duke Paoa Kahanamoku
On August 24th, 2020, in celebration of Duke Kahanamoku’s 130th Birthday, during a time when the world is so very-very different, we urge anyone and everyone who has been touched by the “Gift of Duke”, to take a moment to celebrate (embrace) his life and his spirit of Aloha that he shared with the world.
As a celebrated Olympian, Duke aspired to see surfing become an Olympic sport. In 2020 that wish was to become reality. Let’s all take a moment on the 24th of August to remember Duke Kahanamoku, “The Ambassador of Aloha”.
We’re asking everyone to engage in an activity that was inspired by Duke and to share your experience. Surf, Swim, Paddle, Golf, Spike a ball or just share an act of Aloha.
We hope this will reach tens of thousands of like-minded people that we call our ‘Ohana.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
- Share our Duke’s Day posters/graphics on your social media,
Facebook groups, direct messages, and anywhere your ‘Ohana will
see it. (We will provide virtual copies and hard copies where possible)
- Invite your friends, colleagues and constituents to participate
safely in an activity that the Duke enjoyed: surfing,
paddle boarding, swimming, volleyball, water polo,
canoe riding, etc.
- Like, comment and share on social media encouraging everyone to
participate in Duke’s Day. Post on your channels
highlighting how you are celebrating the legacy of Duke Kahanamoku.
